**Mammals** (from Latin *mamma*) are a group of vertebrate animals constituting the class Mammalia, characterized by the presence of mammary glands which in females produce milk for feeding (nursing) their young, a neocortex (a region of the brain), fur or hair, and three middle ear bones.

**Bears** are carnivoran mammals of the family Ursidae. Although only eight species of bears are extant, they are widespread, appearing in a wide variety of habitats throughout the Northern Hemisphere and partially in the Southern Hemisphere. Bears are found on the continents of North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. Common characteristics of modern bears include large bodies with stocky legs, long snouts, small rounded ears, shaggy hair, plantigrade paws with five nonretractile claws, and short tails.

The **deer** family, formally the family "Cervidae", are hoofed ruminant mammals. Male deer of all species (except the water deer) as well as female reindeer, grow and shed new antlers each year.

**Oceanic dolphins** or **Delphinidae** are a widely distributed family of dolphins that live in the sea. Close to forty extant species are recognized. They include several big species whose common names contain "whale" rather than "dolphin", such as the killer whale and pilot whale. River dolphins are relatives of the Delphinoidea.
